The road is the destination.
For centuries, travelers, officials and merchants moved between Japan’s post towns on foot. We follow those same trails, such as the Nakasendō, at walking pace.
Our tours are for people who would rather understand a place than tick it off.
The 7-day Post Town Traverse.
Seven days on foot along the old post road. Luggage is forwarded ahead, so you carry only a daypack. Every day includes an onsen stop, and the week includes a soba-making lesson.
Sleep under a family’s roof.
We book family-run minshuku inns, not large hotels. Evenings belong to the people who live along the route. It’s a quieter, more personal way to arrive in the places you have walked to.
Eight walkers at most. Guides who know the history.
Capped at eight.
The pace stays easy and conversation stays natural. Nobody is a number at the back of a long line.
English-speaking, trained in regional history.
Ask what happened on the stretch of road beneath your feet. They can tell you.
Two walking seasons: spring and autumn.
Tours depart from April to June and from September to November. Itineraries run from 6 to 10 days. Ask us which departures and routes are open for the season you have in mind.
Solid blocks mark the shortest walk at 6 days; dashed blocks stretch to 10. The Post Town Traverse is outlined in red at 7.
Tell us when you’d like to walk.
Send us your preferred season, group size and questions about the Post Town Traverse or our other 6- to 10-day walks. We’ll reply with what’s available.
